The revised and extended edition has just been published. See books .

[2020-02-26] Adventure Red Sea

Ingrid and Michael escaped the German muddy weather in winter to Egypt. Planned mountain tours in the Sinai mountains had to be changed to an exploration of the fantastic underwater world of the legendary sea south of the Suez Strait due to urgent warnings from the Foreign Office. That was a very good exchange! Photos see gallery .

[2019-09-04] Scotish Mountains

Ingrid and Michael explored it: the Highlands are Scotland's monumental mountains and valleys. From Loch Lomond in north Glasgow to the fabled Loch Ness, relatively powerful mountain peaks and endless valleys, rushing streams and little touches dominate the landscape of northern Scotland. And then there is the "Island of The Mist", because often cloud fields envelop the peaks of the mystical Isle of Skye. Green hill and lake landscapes, wondrous mountain peaks and extensive valleys. Steep cliffs and fine sandy beaches alternate and tranquil harbour resorts and whisky distilleries complete this picture. And climbing areas of a special kind!

[2019-05-14] Canyoing in Greece

"Krete" is mountainous and divided by numerous canyons in the may 2019 on Greece's southern island of Crete. Many deep cuts move from inland to the coast and load to explore even with "E4" (the longest European walking route) a signposted hiking trails. The uniqueness of the Cretan gorges is that these often artistically formed by torrential water flows and provide a scenic extraordinary spectacle. And sometimes, you must climb. Ingrid and Michael were wandering, partly creeping, sometimes climbing is on the way.

[2019-04-01] On the fishermen's trail on the West coast of the Algarve

In the March 2019, Michael ten days solo sailing on w wasone of the best ahrscheinlich coastal paths of the world. The "Fischer path" or "fishermen's trail" is part of the Rota Vicentina on the South-West coast of Portugal. Always on the Atlantic coast along, following the routes, local residents use to reach the beaches and fishing spots. A very sandy path that is accessible only on foot, leads the cliffs along and is physically very demanding - in constant contact with wind and sea, the abruptness of the coastal landscape and its wild nature. The fishermen's path include four stages and five connecting routes with a total 125 kilometers through the Sudoeste Alentejano e Costa Vicentina natural park. Accompanied by murmur of the sea and birds chirping the well-marked far hike over spectacular cliffs, passing sand dunes, coves, secluded beaches where one encounters a human except for fishermen and other hikers. They discovered the original Portugal and the wild beauty of the Atlantic coast. The fishermen's path is considered to be one of the most beautiful coastal walks in Europe, if not the world - and is as "Leading Quality Trail - Best of Europe" certified.

[2018-09-30] New book "Long distance footpaths in Europe"

The new, completely revised and expanded edition of the popular trekking book appears on the 13.11 2018. See http://www.michael-vogeley.de/books.php.

[2018-04-14] With camels across the Sahara

It was a walking tour of a special kind with camels across the Sahara. Through the sandy desert of the great ERG in the Tunisian Sahara. Ingrid and Michael, two friends, four Bedouins and eight camels - or exact Dromedaries. In March, which had the slogan "The desert is a cold country where it can get too hot" true. There were great 100 kilometers across endless sand dunes, deserts with bushes - which supplied the necessary firewood - and a simple life with the sons of the desert. We could learn a lot from these experienced Bedouin: frugality, simplicity, kindness, competence in the wilderness, perfect orientation without map, compass, or even GPS, managing the camels... It was a highlight in our rich outdoor life. Photos: http://www.michael-vogeley.de/gallery.php?show=africa.

[2017-11-11] Warm hiking paradise Malta and Gozo

Ingrid and Michael were on a research trip to the islands between Tunisia and Sicily. The cliffs of both islands are impressive. In particular, the small island of Gozo is ideal for the sun worshippers Trekker.

[2017-09-26] Explorer country Armenia

Michael was located in Armenia on journey of discovery, of the Earth, the oldest Christian country in the Caucasus, which consists mostly of mountains. The capital Yerevan (one still remembers the jokes about "Radio Yerevan" Communist time) is dominated visually by the legendary northern peak of Mount Ararat. A mountain and more than half a hundred volcano mountains "screaming" almost after skiing, the winters are snowy, ski Mountaineer there is no sea and the Caspian Sea as well as in the country between the black. Wait for ski and winter first ascents. Even sports climbers come at their expense. Mountain biking is ideal, but pioneer spirit. There are no marked routes, detailed maps are hard to get. Not all of the peaks are climbed. The adventurer and pioneer is in demand. The former Republic of CIS blossomed, the tourism developing timidly. Also Germany and the EU are committed to the country to completing...

[2016-12-30] Pura vida - adventure in a natural paradise Costa Rica

The Central American country, smaller than the German Federal State of Lower Saxony or the Switzerland, is a deep green oasis of peacefulness. One-third of the country is under nature conservation. The exotic biodiversity is greater than that in the United States and Europe together - stunning, a superlative of nature. One month Ingrid and Michael roamed the small country and noted that seemingly all roads lead to waterfalls, misty crater Lakes, rainforests or secluded jungle beaches. Whether on foot or by kayak: the tropical adventure land waiting for discovery. Pura vida, the pure life, call it the ticos, the friendly locals.

[2016-09-17] Challenge Iceland trekking

Michael was three weeks on the island of fire and ice on the road. With good backpack and solo. Also on the top ten Welttrail "Fireworks" Laugavegur through the colorful Ryolithberge of the Fjallabak and the exciting Fimmförðuháls at the infamous Eyafjallajökull 2010 paralyzed by his gigantic eruptions the air traffic in Europe. Glacier, desert, volcanic activity, storms, photo light of superlatives, mostly deserted... Trekkers dream in the bad weather-stricken, sparsely populated island in the Arctic Circle.

[2014-12-04] Intense interview on Bayern2 radio

Michael is located at his interview on Bayern2 radio in good company with E.g. German President (ret'd) Richard von Weizsäcker, Egon Bahr, Wolf Biermann, Senta Berger, Karlheinz Böhm, Hans-Dietrich Genscher, Sandra Maischberger, Alfred Biolek, Exminister Müntefering... And many other guests without a big name, but with a great life stories. Means ' one to one ' Bayern2 radio: conversations in private. Experiences and insights about significant experiences and successes. Biographical conversations with people who have a compelling life story or an extraordinary profession. People who make a difference - from personal commitment out or by their position in politics, culture and science. It is about the person and the personality.

[2014-11-17] The English long-distance Trail South West Coast path

Michael explored the magnificent coast path in Cornwall and Devon in the southwest corner of England in August/September and underwent a magnificent landscape. More than 1000 km of the former publican path is long and runs always near the Lake of often spectacular cliffs. By the way: The experience taken as the English "Heavy heritage of English cuisine" not so bad was consistently positive. And the "lukewarm Cervisia" (Asterix), the beer was excellent.

[2014-04-12] Snowshoe tours in the frosty Finnish Lapland

It was a - familiar and beloved - challenge: In March, Michael explored solo snowshoe tours in the Finnish Karelia, near the Russian border. Up to minus 30 degrees C and 80 mph winds prevailed for the chill factor about perceived minus 55 degrees C. The peak climbing - none was over 500 metres, but always with magnificent views, because here the taiga only to 400 meters up enough - he repeated later in much more moderate temperatures as leader with participants of the DAV Summit Club.

[2014-03-06] Six essays on the most beautiful long-distance paths

Six proposals for long-distance paths appeared in the Mountaineer, spending February and March, by Michael. Including the trekking with reindeer by the Swedish UNESCO World Heritage Laponia, Michael developed and described there image-heavy: "The smell of fire and freedom". [2013-11-09] Exploration of the unknown Corfu Trail

Ingrid and Michael were in October on the greenest Greek island of Corfu on the road for two weeks. Objective: The ascent of the little-known Corfu trail, which crosses the island about 150 kilometers from South to North. The coastal landscape is often stunning, the mood inside the country is almost meditative. Not a single other Walker was hit on the forth quite demanding by the orientation path! The tour is described in Michael's new book "long distance hiking trails in Europe" .

[2013-11-09] Michael's new book "The most beautiful long distance footpaths in Europe" is published

Experience Europe on foot from Lapland to Gibraltar. Hiking so far carry the feet. At least many hundreds of kilometres and several days at a time. All long-distance paths have in common. Otherwise, they can be very different. For example, Laugavegur on Iceland is characterised by the Hagbard, whereas it runs rather seldom alone on the Spanish Camino. Michael presents (ISBN 978-3-7654-6036-4) 20 trails in his latest book the Bruckmann Verlag, Munich, with all its fascinating features of the "old" continent. There the long distance footpaths E1 to E11 in the overview. For more information about the image-heavy book under

Numerous first ascents and first ascents were then measured the historic date. Recently, another force from the section followed by the "legendary tracks" the anniversary expedition. Especially the 'Fünfzigerpfeiler' first committed by Klaus Bierl, Walter Obster and Michael aroused enthusiasm and respect.

A paradise is terra incognita for Explorer types. Thousands kilometres of uninhabited coastal areas. Cool landscape, vast, untouched, once. Mighty mountains, challenging huge, rough, terrific and in their impact. Thousand year old ice, constantly on the move, bizarre, bizarre, fantastic.

Not what Trekker dream to climb Virgin mountains, never touched walls to climb or to paddle on unvermessenen coast? Nowhere are so many unclimbed mountains as in the polar regions - waits on Alpine Garden of Eden.

The Canadians have to aphorism: what once "up there" (or "down"), is "arctic ask" - "who ask", eaten by great nature. He returns again and again.

[2011-03-12] New, well regarded photo book by Michael in the Bergverlag Rother, Oberhaching, appeared

This book is the first of its kind. Never before presented such a wealth of polar trekking opportunities in all its facets. This book is to arouse and awaken creativity for unusual trekking possibilities in the top and bottom regions of the globe. "Ways" without Splodges, where no one thought for one and it hardly recipe books out there. From the North Pole, through Greenland, Baffin Iceland, Alaska, Iceland, Scandinavia - to the Antarctic continent, South Georgia and Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego. Who in this magical wide trekkt, returns again, forfeit the transparent clarity of light, the originality of nature and the solitude of the explored country.

It wait an astonishing variety of forms of trekking: hiking, kayaking, skiing, dog sledding trips, cross-country skiing, climbing... There are no limits to the imagination of the trekkers. Where in the world you find better trekking conditions?

The idea of a dark, icy desert often associated with high and low latitudes. But the desert lives. The species richness is unbelievable, there's even the densest collection of animals on Earth in Antarctica.

50 Jahre DAV Summit Club forderte Besonderes heraus.

[2007] Patagonien: Inlandeisexpedition – Entdecker gesucht

[2006] DAV Summit Club: Trekkertreffen in Kempten

[2004] Rentiertrekking in Schwedisch-Lappland

[2001] DAV Summit Club Trekkertreffen Berchtesgaden

Etwa 800 Zuschauer waren begeistert. Michael konnte Sir Chris Bonington interviewen, die lebende britische Bergsteigerlegende (Annapurna-Südwand, Ogre-Drama, Grönland-Erstbesteigungen…). Das Resultat: Der aggressive Aufsatz New Playground of the World – Liegt in den Polargebieten die Zukunft des Bergsteigens? im Alpenvereinsjahrbuch 2002.

[2000] Michaels 2. Grönland-Durchquerung
